Pro’s and Con’s of spending Tet Holiday on Halong Bay overnight cruises

The Tet Holiday is very sacred to the Vietnamese. It is their Lunar New Year celebration. Many shops and restaurants in the cities and towns will shut down for Tet, as people go back to their home and celebrate with their family for a full week.

As you may infer, a Halong Bay overnight cruise during this time will be a bit different than the rest of the year.

Many cruise companies stop running during Tet, this makes for a more secluded and intimate cruising experience, as the Bay is less crowded with cruise ships.

You will get more of the beautiful bay to yourself and will be able to enjoy the magnificent scenery even more than usual with fewer ships in your view.

There are also many special decorations that the ship will have for the Tet holiday, such as flowers and ornaments, usually red and gold coloured.

Bhaya Classic is offering a special Halong Bay cruise 2 days 1 night for the Tet holiday. During this cruise, you will receive ‘’lucky money’’ from the cruise manager.

This is a tradition during Tet, it is typical for family members to give each other a small amount of money in a red envelope, signifying prosperity and luck for the new year.

Chung Cake is a traditional Vietnamese Tet holiday food, in which you will be able to taste during dinner. It is made from rice, mung beans, pork, and other ingredients, wrapped up in a square shape with bamboo and banana leaves or something of the like. This is a very special dish that is essential to the Tet holiday and a must-try.

This Halong Bay overnight cruise also offers a 25% discount on all drinks and beverages, as well as complimentary tea and coffee throughout the cruise. Another special holiday offer is a 20% discount for spa services when booked in advance. You can relax your mind and body while saving a bit of money during the holiday.

Another thing to remember while cruising during Tet is the weather. February in Vietnam is one of the coldest months of the year. Although the scenery will be just as breathtaking and awe-inspiring, it will most likely be too cold to swim in the Bay or sunbath on the sundeck. You will want to bring warm clothes with you and prepare for cold nights and cool days, with possible light rainfall.

The best part about cruising during the Tet holiday is being able to really immerse yourself in the Vietnamese culture. This is the most important holiday in Vietnam and to be able to celebrate it with locals on the beautiful bay is a wonderful experience.
