The decision to ban the use of polystyrene
During the third annual meeting of the Ha Long Cat Ba alliance Leadership Committee, Mr. Darius Postma for Au Co presented the findings back to the Ha Long / Quang Ninh provincial governments and other stakeholders. It was alarming that on the day polystyrene, which is classed as a cacogenic, made up 44% of the total garbage that we collected. Following the meeting the banned the use of polystyrene and called for its replacement.
The Ha Long city People’s committee held a meeting to discuss this issue. As a result, on 26 July 2016, the decision to ban the usage of polystyrene in floating villages and fishing activities around the Ha Long Bay – World Heritage Site was announced.
