Some 400 karst islands dot Lan Ha Bay, giving it the same scenic profile as its better known neighbour, with the added attraction of well over 100 secluded beaches. Due to its distance from Halong City, fewer tourism boats venture to Lan Ha Bay, leaving it ideal for adventurous cruising, swimming and kayaking expeditions.
Ba Ham Lake, a captivating destination for kayaking enthusiasts in Halong Bay, lies approximately 20km from Tuan Chau Marina International Port. This unique lake system comprises three interconnected lagoons, linked by dramatic tunnels carved through vertical cliffs, creating a stunning and adventurous kayaking experience. The crystal-clear waters of each lagoon are framed by towering limestone formations and support a diverse array of marine flora and fauna, offering glimpses into the bay’s rich underwater world.
Ba Trai Dao Beach, nestled near Cat Ba Island in Lan Ha Bay, is renowned for its pristine natural beauty. This picturesque beach features white sands and three mountains that resemble peaches. Sheltered by surrounding rocky islands, the shallow waters are ideal for safe swimming. However, due to tidal patterns, this exclusive beach is only accessible for a brief 2-3 hour window each day, as the rest of the time it is submerged.
Here, imposing islands surround a quiet lagoon, sheltered from the sea swells and only accessible via a 100m long sea cave. Passing through this arched entryway brings you to a circular lagoon completely enclosed by rugged rock walls where trees and bushes grow insistently. Dark Cave is a long cavern where you will need a torch to see, while Light Cave is shorter and you can see the daylight coming from the far end.
Nestled deep within the lush jungles and surrounded by the imposing mountain ranges of Cat Ba National Park, Viet Hai Village offers a glimpse into a tranquil and self-sufficient way of life. This secluded community, comprised of approximately 80 households, represents the traditional inhabitants of Halong Bay, who have thrived for generations through fishing, farming, and animal husbandry. Visitors to Viet Hai can experience the authentic charm of this remote village, where time seems to slow, and the rhythms of nature dictate daily life.
